Imagine IAM Origin:

The Imagine International Academy of Mableton represents a curious expression of interest that is quickly becoming a reality. Tracey Waddell, a passionate Mableton parent, first approached Imagine Schools in early November 2005 about the possibility of starting a Charter School in our area (Mableton - South Cobb). Tracey was concerned about the rapid growth of the community and the limited ability of the existing public schools to respond to that growth. She also liked the idea of creating more choices in education for the Mableton area. The response from Imagine was immediate and enthusiastic. Gillian Horsley, Regional Director of Imagine Schools for Georgia, became the beacon of hope. She seemed to embrace the concepts that anything is possible and the sky is the limit. Her positive energy and passion for quality education was contagious. Tracey was immediately joined by close friends and neighbors, to whom she is so deeply grateful for extending such support. Several community members attended a meeting with Imagine Schools at Kennesaw Charter School on November 17, 2005. After hearing about the possibilities and what Imagine had to offer, the partnership with Imagine Schools was official. Quickly the momentum became unstoppable! Today there are over 1200 families expressing interest in Imagine IAM and over 100 volunteers serving on several committees; devoting countless time, energy and talents to help make the dream a reality. One parent's interest suddenly became a collective passion of the community. One school suddenly became two schools as Smyrna has now opened an Imagine Charter School as well. back to top

Unique features of Imagine IAM:

Our goal is to provide a unique educational experience that is different from what is already offered to our community. We believe we have achieved this by choosing to deliver our curriculum through the program created by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), by offering Spanish as a second language, by utilizing a balanced calendar, and by requiring uniforms and mandatory parent volunteer hours. Each of these features was chosen because of the positive effect they have proven to have on other schools where they have been offered. back to top

The true ideal behind Imagine IAM:

To allow the child to grow and learn as an individual, to encourage enormous involvement of parents and guardians, and to offer an alternative choice in education for our area. Imagine IAM cannot meet the needs of everyone, but it strives to be an excellent choice for some families. Keep in mind that Imagine IAM is not intended to compete with or replace the existing public schools. The intention is to create exceptional opportunities for ALL the children in our area and beyond. Research shows that the creation of a charter school in a community has an undeniably positive effect on the existing schools; requiring that all the schools in the area raise the bar of performance. back to top
